Genuine Extreme Hoarding Work

These photographs were retained from the original Phoenix page because they show the reality of severe clutter, restricted access and contaminated living conditions. They are presented as practical evidence of the environments Phoenix clears—not as staged stock photography.

Extreme Hoarding Cleaning Ireland

Extreme hoarding can gradually remove the use of bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, stairs and exits. What began as saved possessions may develop into tightly packed rooms, unstable piles, spoiled food, waste, pests, mould and serious fire or hygiene risks. Phoenix provides a complete clearance and deep-cleaning service for severe hoarding properties across Ireland.

This work is approached without judgement. People affected by hoarding may feel ashamed, overwhelmed or frightened that everything will be thrown away. Mark Healy discusses the property, the client’s priorities and the safest way forward before work begins. The plan can identify possessions to retain, important paperwork to recover and rooms that need to be made usable first.

Some Phoenix customers have lived in extremely difficult conditions for more than twenty-five years. A structured clearance can be genuinely life-changing: it can restore access, hygiene, privacy and the possibility of using the home normally again.

Our Service Can Include

  • Extreme hoarding house clearance
  • Room-by-room decluttering

  • Human and animal-waste cleaning
  • Kitchen and bathroom deep cleaning
  • Carpet and flooring assessment

Private Help Without Shame

Hoarding affects people from every background. A person may maintain a job and ordinary public life while struggling privately inside the home. Bereavement, illness, isolation, disability and other major life events can contribute, but Phoenix does not attempt to diagnose the client. Our role is to provide calm, respectful and practical property help.

You do not have to remain in the house while the work is carried out. Phoenix can often arrange keys through the client, a relative, landlord, solicitor, estate agent or another authorised representative. Photographs and short videos can be sent privately through WhatsApp to help Mark understand the scale of the job before attendance.

If the previous stage relates to investigative or biological contamination, Phoenix also provides crime scene cleaning across Ireland. This preserves the natural service sequence without forcing clients through irrelevant pages.

Where possible, sentimental possessions, photographs, legal documents, money and valuables discovered during the clearance are placed aside. Clients can give written instructions or nominate a trusted family member to make decisions, reducing pressure on anyone who finds the process emotionally difficult.

Health and Safety Inside a Hoarded Home

Severe clutter can hide broken glass, sharps, unstable flooring, spoiled food, animal faeces, damp, mould and pest activity. Narrow access routes may also prevent a quick exit during an emergency. Phoenix assesses the visible conditions, establishes working routes and uses protective equipment appropriate to the agreed work.

Clients should not enter an unstable or contaminated area merely to take photographs. If it is safe, pictures can be taken from the doorway; otherwise Mark can discuss an on-site assessment.

How an Extreme Hoarding Clearance Works

The first conversation establishes which rooms are affected, whether utilities are working, whether anyone is living at the property and whether there are immediate hazards. Mark also asks what the client wants to achieve. One person may need a safe bedroom and bathroom restored; another may need the entire property prepared for renovation, sale, tenancy or return to family use.

A practical sequence is agreed before the clearance. The team normally creates a safe access route and then works through designated areas in a controlled order. Items identified for retention are separated from agreed waste. This avoids repeatedly moving the same possessions and helps the client see measurable progress.

Clearance and cleaning are different stages. Removing clutter exposes floors, walls, appliances and fittings that may not have been reachable for years. Once access is available, Phoenix can assess contamination, deep-clean suitable surfaces and identify materials that are damaged beyond sensible restoration.

Unexpected conditions are common in heavily hoarded homes. Hidden leaks, pest nests, rotten flooring or significant mould may only appear after furniture and contents are removed. Phoenix explains material changes before extending the agreed scope, keeping the client in control of decisions and cost.

The final handover identifies what has been cleared and cleaned and what building work remains. Phoenix can also prepare the property for trades by removing agreed kitchens, bathrooms, doors, damaged floor coverings or other non-structural items through the separate Restoration Preparation service.

Cleaning in Your Absence

For many clients, remaining at the property increases stress and slows decision-making. Phoenix can work while the client stays with relatives, travels or simply avoids the affected rooms. One nominated contact can receive progress updates and answer questions.

This discreet arrangement is particularly helpful when the client feels embarrassed or when family members live outside Ireland. Access, retained possessions and completion arrangements are agreed in advance.

Preparing a Hoarded Home for Sale

Heavy clutter and poor hygiene can suppress a property’s practical marketability. Clearance, deep cleaning and sensible preparation may reveal usable space and help buyers, surveyors and estate agents assess the home properly.

Depending on its starting condition and the wider market, substantial recovery work may improve the home’s value significantly—sometimes by as much as 20% from its distressed condition. No valuation increase can be guaranteed, but a safe, accessible and presentable property gives owners better options.

Can you prepare the property for renovation?

Yes. Agreed damaged contents and non-structural fittings can be removed, and Phoenix can identify the remaining repair and reinstatement work at handover.
